Republic Windows Feeling More Heat

Share photos on twitter with TwitpicSo, Republic Windows received an incentive to build that window factory in Illinois. Now that they’ve essentially closed that factory, while buying another one and another window company in Iowa, Republic has even more explaining to do (click the quote for a link to the source article):

Flanked by union leaders, more than a dozen (Chicago) aldermen …vowed to hold hearings and explore “every legal option” to force Republic to re-pay $9.3 million in tax-increment financing (TIF) funds used to build the company’s Goose Island plant.

Ald. Joe Moore (49th) said he was incensed to learn Republic executives formed a limited liability corporation that has purchased a plant in Iowa, where labor is cheaper. The TIF subsidy was paid in 2002 and 2003.
