A commenter named Steve over at organizersfightback.wordpress.com wondered if there was a list of organizations that people could contact if they wanted to get involved in their community.

I’m about to do an online search for something like a “community involvement portal” or “clearhinghouse,” but wanted to ask for your input. Do you know of a site where someone could go and potentially drill down to their community or find an organization that reaches into their community? Or should a new “portal” for that be started from scratch or added on to some organization’s site?
